Why Did God Send Me To Hell?
Why Did God Send Me To Hell?
Of all the things I’m asked about my terrifying hell experience, one prominent question is, “Why Did God Send Me To Hell?” Other similar questions are, “Why doesn’t God give everyone a vision of hell so they can be saved” and “Why was I privileged to receive a vision?” People believe that if everyone just received a vision of hell, then all would receive Jesus and be saved. Would that really work?
In my case, I had been a devoted Christian for 28 years. I never asked God to show me hell. I never asked for this experience. Many people express that they wish God would give them a vision of hell. They don’t realize they’d have a greater responsibility to do more for the Kingdom. The Bible says in Luke 12:48, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” A vision like mine changes the course of your life. Are people really prepared for that?
Yes, God can give a vision of hell to a person who is already saved. Some ask, “where does the Bible say he will give a Christian a vision?” In Acts 2:17 it states, “In the last days…your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.” God was simply fulfilling His word by giving me a vision, just as He has done with countless others.
On the other hand, if God were to give a vision of hell to an unsaved person, someone who does not know Jesus, that person would immediately know that hell is real and God does exist. There would be no faith needed once they saw and experienced hell. The Bible has some things to say about faith:
Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” In Ephesians 2:8-9 it says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Faith is a requirement for salvation, and faith comes by hearing God’s Word…not by a vision of hell.
In addition, having a vision of hell may not necessarily cause a person to repent and receive Jesus Christ. The Bible says that the Gospel must be preached to produce true repentance.
Romans 10:14 Says, “How then shall they call on him whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Hearing the Gospel is what saves.
Read Revelation 16:11. It states,” And they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
In this verse, we observe that even when the wrath of God is poured out during the great tribulation period, men still refuse to repent. Jesus said in Luke 13:28, “There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” The people in hell are gnashing their teeth which indicates they are extremely angry. Gnashing does not indicate a repentant heart. Time in hell with all its suffering would not be cause for repentance.
One of the thoughts I had during my vision was, “Why did you send me to this awful place”? Jesus answered my thought and told me, “Because many people do not believe that hell exists. Even some of My own people do not believe that hell is real.”
I was amazed to hear that some Christians do not believe that hell is real.
I could sense the Lord’s deep love for people to know the truth. Knowing that hell is a reality, and how horrible it really is, greatly deepens our appreciation and thankfulness. I was so very grateful that He had rescued me. I understood that it was out of His great love for mankind that He wanted them to know this place exists so they could instead choose life with Him.
In 1 John 5:12, we are assured: “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
One of the last things Jesus said to me was, “Go and tell them about this place. It is not My desire that any should go there. Hell was “prepared for the devil and his angels.”
Over time I understood that I was a signpost to point people to what the Bible says about hell. I believe that the only reason God took me to hell was to draw attention to His Word on this subject.
It is not that He needed help from me or anyone else however I believe time is getting short. There are some unusual things God is doing in the earth today to help awaken people to the truth. He is imploring people to listen to His Word.
This is not a condemning message, but a warning message. God does not want anyone to go down this heavily traveled road that so many are on.
