Why Can’t Everyone Just Go to Heaven?

First, God is a just judge, and our sin must be punished. We can all agree that a good judge in our land would not be considered good if he let the criminal go free. The crime has to be punished just as our sin has to be punished. The good news is that Jesus took that punishment for us, but if you deny Him, then it’s you who must take the punishment. The second reason God cannot let sinful man into heaven is because of what God spoke in Hebrews 12:29 and Nahum 1:5. He said that He is a consuming fire and all of us would be consumed a His presence.

We must understand that His nature is different than ours. If I put my hand into a fire to retrieve something I would burn my hand. I wouldn’t say, “Why did that fire burn me? That was mean of that fire.” I wouldn’t say that because we know that the nature of the fire is to burn. My hand and fire are not compatible just as a holy God and sinful man are not compatible. He has to give us a new nature…one that’s compatible with His. How do we get that? There is only one way. If someone came and lived the perfect life and never sinned, He could take out place. That person is Jesus Christ. He stands before the Father and says, “I’ve never sinned. I’m paying for their sins.” If we will trust in Him, and not in our own works or good behavior, He will save us (Titus 3:5).

When we trust in the Cross He considers our trust as if we were righteous. Isn’t that amazing! God considers our trust in Him, and the price Jesus paid on the Cross. as if we were righteous. We can stand before the Father because Jesus took our sins, washed them away, and gave us a new nature! That is an amazing plan that God came up with to get us saved. People complain and say, “I don’t like this one-way business you Christians have.” They ought to be grateful there is a way. He made a way where there was no way

Do you want to be saved?

These are the clear directions to heaven:

The first is found in John 3:36, which says, “He that believes in the son has everlasting life. But he that believes not on the son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”How do you know the Son? Jesus said in Luke 13:3, “unless a man repent, you shall all likewise perish.” What does repent mean? It means to have a humble heart and say, “I don’t want to sin anymore. I’m tired of a sinful lifestyle. I want to turn away from sin and I want to follow Jesus.” It’s not enough to mentally ascend to the fact that Jesus exists, and then just go about your own way, doing your own thing. That’s not repentance. You must have humility. Get on your knees and say, “Lord, forgive me. I want to turn away from sin. I’m going to follow you.”

Second, Romans 10:9-10 says, “If we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in our heart that God’s raised him from the dead, we shall be saved.” We must believe in our own heart and confess it with our own mouth. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes under the Father but by me.” If you want to live at His house, you do it His way. There is no other way.

Maybe you just don’t believe all of this. Well, there is a verse for you. Revelation 21:8 says, “all unbelievers shall have their part in the lake of fire.” That’s a warning. God has told you that if you don’t believe His Word, and you don’t believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven, then you will have your part in the lake of fire. You must choose to heed the warning.
