Where Will Your Spirit Body Go?

You have the choice. Either way, you do have a spirit body, and yes, it will live forever. You will continue to exist after you take your last breath. It is a spirit body, as 1 Corinthians 15:44 states.

During my 23 Minutes in Hell experience, I noticed I had a body. This was an out-of-body vision where I saw my spirit leave my physical, earthly body. When I looked at my spirit body in hell, it looked like my body on earth. However, when the demonic creatures tore at my flesh, I noticed I had no blood or water coming from the wounds.

Leviticus 17:11 states that the life of the flesh is in the blood. Well, there is no life in hell, so there is no blood. And Zechariah 9:11 states, “There is no water.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23 tells us we are a three-part being with a spirit, a soul—which is comprised of your mind, will, and emotions—and a body.

Your spirit body is different from your physical body. However, it has similar characteristics.

For those who reject the Lord Jesus Christ, the body is designed to withstand the torments of hell.

In Luke 16, Jesus described the rich man in hell. He had a mouth to speak, eyes to see, a tongue desperate for one drop of water, and he felt the burning flames. He possessed a body that suffered the torments of hell.

Ezekiel 32:24 says they will experience shame.

Isaiah 14:9–10 and Psalm 88:4 state they will experience weakness.

Isaiah 57:20 and Revelation 14:10–11 state they will never rest.

Lamentations 3:6 and Jude 13 indicate they will experience darkness.

Romans 9:22 mentions, “vessels of wrath prepared for destruction.” Could that refer to the bodies in hell? They are prepared. Some commentaries say yes.

Also, Mark 9:48–49 says, “Where ‘their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ ‘For everyone will be salted with fire.'”

The body in hell is prepared with salt, which is a preservative. Could it mean it preserves the body in hell from being consumed in the fire? A. W. Pink says so.

Matthew 25:41 states that the fire was also prepared. Could it be similar to the burning bush that was not consumed?

Exodus 3:2 says, “And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

Proverbs 1:12 says, “Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down to the Pit.”

The word whole indicates there is a soul and a body of some sort in hell, as this next verse confirms:

Matthew 10:28 says, “Fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Psalm 26:9 says, “Gather not my soul with sinners.”

Job 33:28 says, “He will deliver his soul from going into the pit.”

David and Job say they have a soul in hell, and Jesus mentions both soul and body.

Years ago, Donald Whitaker, Doctor of Philosophy, who was a specialist in research science, was dying in the hospital. He was an atheist. This is what he said:

“That night as I was lying there in bed, I would begin to fade away, and as I would fade away, it was like darkness. It was so, so dark. The darkness penetrated into your very being. I can tell you I left my body because I remember when I came back into my body. I don’t know where I was out of my body. There are people that talk about a light, or floating above, or a feeling of warmth and love. I didn’t feel any of that. I felt none of that. I felt untold terror, untold terror, because I knew that if I ever went all the way, if I slipped all the way, I would never get back. Now, in my being of beings, I knew that.”

He had one Christian friend who came to see him before he died, and he ended up receiving Jesus Christ.

Now, people who receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior before they die will enjoy the amazing presence and love of God forever. They will experience God’s home—a place called Heaven. When the Lord Jesus returns to the earth, and He is coming very, very soon, all believers will receive a glorified body. Our bodies will be like the Lord’s body, comprised of flesh and bone without the need for blood. His eternal life will permeate these astonishing bodies that will never age or die. We will look young.

When I traveled back to earth with the Lord Jesus, He took me briefly out into space. In my spirit body, I viewed the earth from space, hanging on nothing, spinning perfectly, all within His control. I had no need of oxygen or a space suit. I remember when we traveled back to earth, and I thought about how we passed through the barrier of the earth’s atmosphere so easily! This spirit body I had did not have the restrictions that we now have.

People who have either clinically died, had a near-death experience, or had a vision of heaven have mentioned experiencing such things as being overwhelmed by the vibrant colors, beauty, and wonderful fragrance. They saw perfect grass, flowers, trees, vegetation, mountains, and hillsides. They experienced beautiful music, overwhelming peace, unconditional love, boundless energy, strength, and health that came from God. Some saw angels, people, loved ones, families having a picnic, children, animals, and some even saw their pets. They viewed exquisite homes, precious jewels, transparent gold streets, and an enormous, beautiful gate made of solid pearl—and much more! But everyone said it was nothing compared to the beauty, majesty, and presence of the Lord Jesus.

Think about when Jesus told us to pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Heaven is a real place, but perfect. It is a place with no death. It is full of God’s life, God’s love, and God’s order.

After Jesus rose from the dead, He had His glorified body. He said He had flesh and bone as we have. He said He was not a spirit.

Luke 24:39 says, “Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me, and see; for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see Me have.”

We know Jesus walked through walls, vanished right before their eyes, and traveled to heaven and back in His new glorified body. He ate food several times. So this new body can consume physical food and be touched. Perhaps these new bodies will be able to disappear and travel by thought. We do not know that for certain. Those events with Jesus may have been because of His miraculous power.

1 John 3:2 says, “We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

Maybe we will be able to do those things. Who would not want a body like that? We do know that we will never get sick, tired, weak, age, or die.

Before you take your last breath on earth, I urge you to humble yourself before your Creator and ask His forgiveness for your sin and for living a selfish life apart from Him. After death, you want to meet Jesus as your Savior, not as your Judge.
