What If I Die and Don’t Repent?
All of us have sinned. Sometimes, we can even sin throughout the day without realizing it. For instance, if we doubt, it’s a sin. If we worry, it’s a sin. We may have been angry without a cause, or we may have had a lustful thought. These are all sins.
There is a verse in Proverbs 24:9 that says, even the thought of foolishness is sin. One foolish thought is a sin. How many foolish thoughts do we have in a day, and yet we don’t repent of them?
If we were sent to hell for every sin that we didn’t repent of, every one of us would be in hell. It is only God’s grace that covers us.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
- Titus 2:11 “For the grace of God that brings salvation.”
- Titus 3:7 “That being justified by his grace we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
- 1 Peter 4:8 “Love covers a multitude of sins.” God is love, so His grace covers even our un-confessed sins.
We are saved by placing our trust in the finished work of the Cross and not by repenting of every possible sin. Genuine Christ followers are eager to repent and ask for forgiveness when they know they have sinned. We should also ask for forgiveness for any sins we may be unaware of.
If we die unexpectedly God’s grace covers us, and His blood has cleansed us. We are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ for all of our sins.
Thank God for His great grace and mercy.
