Was Jesus Perfect?
There are some that say Jesus was not sinless. This false accusation is derived from ignorance of the scriptures.
- 2 Cor. 5:21 God, hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin.
- 1 Pet. 2:22 Who did no sin.
- 1 John 3:5 In him is no sin.
- Heb. 4:15 but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin
- Heb. 9:28 shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
- Gal. 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins…
- John 8:46 Jesus asked, “which of you convinceth me of sin?”
Believers Bible Commentary, page 1519 states, “There was not a person in the world who could convict him of a single sin. There was no defect in his character. He was perfect in all his ways.”
Even the O. T. animal sacrifice for sin had to be without spot or blemish, which was a foreshadowing of Jesus to come. However, the animal sacrifice was not perfect, and could only cover sin. It could not take away sin as Hebrews 10:4 states.
Jesus was and is perfect, as Hebrews 9:11 states.
Hebrews 7:26 says, “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.” This is also stated in Ephesians 5:27 and 1 Peter 1:19.
Hebrews 9:14 says, “how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds…Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.”
Romans 5:9 says, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
1 John 1:7 says, “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Jesus had to be sinless in order to pay for our sins and satisfy God’s justice.
1 John 2:2 states, “He is the means of forgiveness for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world.”
No one else has lived a perfect, sinless life, died for our sins, and rose from the dead.
If Jesus didn’t live a sinless life, then there would be no hope for us. Thank God He did.
