True Stories of God’s Goodness
I’d like to share with you some true stories of how much God loves people and how He attempts to reach and rescue them from the wrong road.
The 93 Year Old Atheist
I sold a home for an older man who was in his 90’s. He was an arrogant atheist, a historian, and a very educated man who served in WW2. He told me his story and shared that his platoon was blown up three times, and he was the only survivor. Three separate times! That should cause anyone to think about why they were the only one spared.
Later in life, he was in a car accident where everyone died except him. I told him how obvious it was that God was protecting him. He disagreed and said there is no God. I said to him, “How could anyone deny the obvious? He has kept you alive all these years for you to get saved. This is God’s mercy over you.” Here at 93 years old, the Lord allowed me to share with Him about Jesus and he still rejected the truth. He said, “there is no God.” This man was without excuse. I wouldn’t want to be him at Judgment Day.
Romans 2:4 says, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.”
2 Peter 3:9 reads, “The Lord is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
You can see that is was his choice to reject Jesus. Why would anyone with a rational mind, especially at his age, soon facing death, risk their eternity?
The Boy With The Frozen Legs
We were speaking at a church and a woman came up to my wife and I and said that she had brought her teenage son to hear me. He was an atheist. He didn’t believe anything I said, and said the Bible is not true. I approached him and sensed I should take the time and effort to be very sincere and look him straight in the eyes. I asked him some questions, and then asked him if he would simply ask God to reveal himself to him, and just read the book of John. God will show you He is real.
He at least paid attention to me and said he would think about it. A week later his mother called us and said he was walking across the street, and in the middle of the road his legs froze and he couldn’t move. He fell down in the middle of the street. Fortunately, it was not a busy street. He looked up and there was a cross at the side of the road. Why would a cross be there in that certain spot? When he saw it, he heard a voice say to him, “Bill Wiese told you the truth.” Well, someone driving by stopped and took him to the hospital. They couldn’t find anything wrong with him. He then realized it must be God trying to get his attention. He said he felt led to ask forgiveness, repent of his sins and accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Immediately after he did that, his legs began to function! He got up and was able to walk out of the hospital. God was answering his mother’s prayers to do whatever it takes to reach him. God is unlimited in how He can reach someone especially when another is praying for that person.
Hebrews 2:4 says, “And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Romans 15:19, “They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit.”
If we are diligent to pray for another’s salvation, there is no limit on what God will do.
The Nurse
My wife and I were sitting next to a woman, a nurse, on the plane. After some time I was able to share the way of salvation with her. I ended up telling her about the fires of hell and about my book, 23 Minutes in Hell. I usually never share my experience about hell with someone who doesn’t know me, because it could come across strange, especially if they are not a Christian. They wouldn’t understand that God can give someone a vision. But with her, I felt led to share it.
She was going to a conference for nurses in Los Angeles. A few days later, she emailed to tell us that what happened at the conference was strange. She said that normally they have stethoscopes, syringes or medical equipment on the background screen on stage. This time, for an unknown reason, they had flames of fire on the screen. What would that have to do with medical topics? This immediately got her attention. It prompted her to but my book. She ended up praying to accept the Lord as her Savior. The screen of fire definitely spoke to her!
Acts 14:3, “And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.”
I didn’t do any miraculous signs, but she took the fire as a sign from God. Again, sometimes God will use unusual ways to reach people.
The Teenage Students
A woman wrote to us who was a teacher at a special school with troubled and difficult teens. She explained that a teacher is not allowed to talk about God or Jesus Christ to the students. One rule at the school was that someone would come into the classroom every 15 minutes to make sure all was peaceful.
During one of the first classes, a student asked a question about a book he read called, “23 Minutes in Hell.” It just so happened that she was a Christian and had read my book. She carefully answered the question, as she was forbidden to go any further about the Bible. Another student asked a question about the book and hell, then a third. She simply was answering their questions. This ended up going on for the entire semester. The students wanted to know about hell, salvation, and Jesus, and kept asking questions. In addition, no one came in to check on the class or the students, as was required. No one came in at all to see if all was going smoothly and under control.
At the end of the semester she ended up leading the whole class to the Lord in a prayer. The students wanted to do it. God kept the patrol person out of the classroom as not to disturb the discussion of the Bible, heaven, and hell. That is supernatural. She was so excited to see God save these troubled students, and to see the supernatural hand of God.
Psalms 31:20, “You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.”
Hebrews 10:23 says, “He is faithful that promised.”
God is a good God and desires for every person to turn their heart to Him.
