The Word Works Together
Many Christians say they are struggling. They say, “I go to church, I read the Word, and yet I’m still struggling. My bills aren’t paid. I’ve got health issues,” and so forth. They wonder why. There are many reasons for this in the Word of God and we have to embrace them all. Sometimes we just take a piece of it, and we ignore the rest of it. In Matthew 6:33, it says, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. And then all these things will be added unto thee.”
There are many bible verses that go hand in hand. You might be doing one thing, but leaving out the other. That can hinder you. We know that Malachi 3:8-10 talks about tithing. God said, “Prove me herewith saith the Lord of hosts if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing where there’s not room enough to receive.” He said He would rebuke the devourer for our sakes. The bible instructs us is to tithe and give offerings. Many people don’t tithe, yet it is a very important, crucial thing to do. However, if we tithe only, Haggai 1:5 says, “If you do tithe, and do not build God’s house or focus on saving souls, your money bag will have holes and run out the door.” In other words, if you’re tithing but you don’t have a heart for souls, you don’t witness, you don’t share the Word of God with people, then you’re not building God’s house, He says your money bag will have holes in it and run out the door. You actually lose the money that you made. This is something we all need to be doing. We must be “doers of the Word” in all areas. Winning souls is one of the most important things. Proverbs 11:30 says, “He that wins souls is wise.”
James 1:6, 7 says, “If you do not have faith, and (you) doubt, you will not receive anything from God.” That means we must do everything in faith. We have to believe Him, and not doubt. That’s a tall order but if we doubt, we will not receive anything. You might not be doing the things you are doing in faith towards God. We need to beef up our faith. We need to increase our faith. That only comes through reading and hearing the Word of God.
Then in 1 Corinthians 13:2, 3 it says, “If you have great faith to move mountains and have not love, it profits me nothing.” You can operate in great faith but if you don’t operate in love (because God is love), then you’re missing out on something. We need to show love and forgiveness to people even when they’re unkind to us. Again, we must do both to receive the promised blessing. Proverbs 28:27 says, “If we don’t give to the poor, we will be cursed.” Jesus also talked about that in Matthew 25:41, 42. He said to give to the hungry or you will be cursed.
In Ephesians 6:2, 3, it says if we do not honor our parents, it will not go well with us. We must honor our parents. Many times, people ignore their parents as they begin to age. We need to be watching over our parents and helping them. The bible says it will go well with us and we’ll live long on the Earth. If you’re not taking care of your parents, you might have some problems.
Ephesians 6:13 says that if we do not put on the whole armor of God, we won’t be able to withstand in the evil day. We have to be wearing all the armor of God so that we can stand against the devil. James 4:7 says if we do not submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he won’t flee from us. 2 Corinthians 2:10 says if we don’t forgive anything, Satan will get an advantage over us. We have to forgive everyone no matter what they’ve done to us. Many people harbor un-forgiveness. That opens a door to the enemy.
Lastly, Revelation 2:2, 4 says if we labor for the Lord, but lose our zeal, we have left our first love. Jesus says he will remove our candlestick. I don’t know what that means exactly, but it doesn’t sound good. What he’s saying is if we’re doing labors for the Lord, feeding the poor, witnessing, and doing many things for God… but we have left our first love, it is all in vain. The most important thing God desires is a personal relationship with us. You could be doing many things for God, but not spending time with Him. You could be having problems in your life because you have opened up the hedge that God has about us.
Think of the bible as holistic. That means “characterized as being intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.” You will be successful and blessed if you become a doer of all the Word of God, seek out what He has to say, and apply it to your life.
