The Devil Overplayed His Hand With Charlie

Millions of us around the world were shocked and grieved by the murder of a brave young father, husband, and amazing Christian leader, Charlie Kirk. He was murdered for boldly sharing biblical truth and godly values with a young generation that the devil is relentlessly trying to destroy.

Think about that. He was publicly gunned down and killed for expressing what he believed in. His death is impacting people in an unprecedented way that can only be attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit. His martyrdom, and the powerful words of his widow, are igniting this generation to stand up for their faith in Jesus Christ and for patriotism, and have aroused a moral awakening.

The devil overplayed his hand. He killed the messenger, but the message is just getting started. What Satan meant for evil, God is turning for good.

In John 12:24–25, Jesus said:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”

Jesus was speaking here of His own death. We know Jesus was the ultimate seed sown when He died on the Cross for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. The risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, continues to produce an exceedingly great harvest of believers all over the earth.

This principle holds true for Charlie and all Christian martyrs. Throughout the centuries, missionaries and countless Christians have laid down their lives to proclaim God’s truth. And when a Christian dies obeying God, their death will produce much fruit. People will turn to Jesus Christ.

And let’s not forget those men and women in our military who lay down their lives so that we, as Christians, have the freedom to proclaim the truth—the gospel.

The devil overplayed his hand when Jesus Christ was crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:8 speaks of the hidden wisdom of God, saying:

“…none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

The devil overplayed his hand when he thought he had won after the Lord Jesus died on the Cross.

When the devil overplays his hand in our lives, we must rise from the sadness, trials, and despair. We must choose to believe and declare that God is good and that He is for us. Just listen to how the apostle Paul instructs us after all the tremendous trials and persecutions he endured.

Romans 8:31, 35, and 37 say:

“If God is for us, who can be against us? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

As believers, we must trust that God still has a plan for our lives and that He is faithful to perfect that which concerns us. Psalm 138:8 says:

“The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.”

The devil only wins when we shrink in fear, remain in grief, and give up on God. The Lord never changes—He is good and forever faithful. He said He would never leave or forsake us. He is the God of all comfort. He is the God who is mighty to save. He will strengthen and restore us.

If we choose to respond in faith toward God, we can expect:

  • God’s strength to infuse us
  • God’s guidance to discover His plan for our life
  • God’s Spirit to empower us to live a life of courage, hope, and purpose

Joshua 1:9 instructs us:

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Life is not easy. But a meaningful life full of hope and purpose begins with a full commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. A half-hearted commitment won’t work.

Today, surrender your life to the One who shed His blood on the Cross to purchase your spiritual freedom and give you eternal life.
