The Corona Virus - Why Am I So Afraid?

Most people live with some kind of fear such as the fear of heights or fear of flying, fear of a disease, fear of failure in business, loss of their possessions, fear of snakes and spiders or even a fear of public speaking. That’s one I had to overcome. Now, it seems we are consumed with the fear of a virus or fear of our own death. As Christians, we do not have to fear anything. God said He would protect us if we commit to following Him.

Psalm 91 says, “Thou shall not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flies by day, nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday, a 1,000 shall fall at thy side and 10,000 at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”

Proverbs 12:21 says, “There shall no evil happen to the just.”

Proverbs 19:23, “He shall not be visited with evil.”

Ecclesiastes 8:5, “Whoever keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing.”

Numbers 8:19 says, “That there be no plague among the children of Israel.”

1 John 4:18 states that, “There is no fear in love because perfect love casts out fear,” because fear has torment. God is that perfect love and we abide in Him and He in us, so there should be no fear in us. Fear is a torment, and people need to realize it is a spirit they are dealing with.

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.”

Romans 8:14, 15 says, “For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.”

Hebrews 2:15 says, “And deliver them through fear of death where all their lifetime subject to bondage.” There are many who fear death all their life.

We as Christians have been given authority over all the power of the enemy, as Jesus said in Luke 10:19. We need to rebuke that spirit of fear and command it to go. Jesus told us many times not to fear nothing except for God as it says in Matthew 10:28, Matthew 14:27, 17:7, Mark 5:36, Psalms 111:10, Luke 7:16 and Acts 9:31.

If a person doesn’t fear God then they will fear something else, and fearing anything else is harmful to us. To live in fear is a sin, and fear prevents us from clearly receiving God’s guidance.

One of the most terrifying things I experienced in a vision God gave me of hell was the fear. It permeated every cell in my body. The fear was so severe that I would have died in this physical body when I returned from the vision. Everyone in hell experiences this fear for all eternity. My wife prayed that God would remove that horror of hell in my mind and He did.

I know something about fear. I was attacked by a 10 foot tiger shark while surfing at the age of 17. The shark grabbed my leg and pulled me down under the water. You can imagine the fear that I felt. Yet, that fear paled in comparison to the fear in hell. As Christians we are commanded by Jesus to share God’s love and truth with people, which includes how they can escape hell, the place of ultimate fear. It begins with a sincere and humble heart that acknowledges a holy, perfect God who I will face when I die, and to understand that I’ll never be good enough to live at His house or in heaven.

We all must understand that Jesus Christ came and died for all of our sins and failures. He lived the perfect life and took our place on the cross. He died and rose from the dead, defeating sin, death, and all demonic powers. You know, turning from our sins and putting our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior is the only way to escape hell, to know God, and to experience peace now in this life. The question I ask you is, “What are you afraid of?” Whatever it is, you don’t have to live with that fear. The reverential fear of God is the only fear we need to know.
