The Blood Speaks

Genesis 4:8 speaks of Cain, who murdered his brother over an offering. It says, “Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.”

First John 3:10–12 explains further: “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil, and his brothers were righteous.”

Did you catch that? Cain killed his brother out of envy. In Matthew 27:18, Scripture states that Pilate knew the wicked religious leaders delivered Jesus to him to be killed because of envy. Think about it. Jesus loved people. He demonstrated His love to them. He healed and delivered them. He shared God’s truth with them. People loved and followed Jesus, and the wicked leaders hated Him for it.

In Genesis 4:10, God replied to Cain, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.” Did you know that when innocent blood is shed, it speaks to God?

In Revelation 6:9–11, these verses speak of the fifth seal opened by the Lord Jesus Christ during the Tribulation. It reveals the martyrs crying out to God, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

In these verses, their blood was not necessarily speaking, but they are still alive in heaven and cried out for vengeance upon those who killed them. In the same way, the blood of Christian martyrs speaks to God. God is faithful and righteous to execute judgment upon the wicked. We are commanded to leave revenge in God’s hands.

During the Great Tribulation, God’s wrath is poured out upon the whole earth. Part of God’s judgments will be that all the rivers and springs of water become blood. Revelation 16:6 states, “For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.”

It is a serious offense against God when someone sheds innocent blood. Proverbs 6:17 tells us God hates “hands that shed innocent blood,” and it is an abomination to Him. That includes killing babies in the womb.

Thankfully, in God’s great mercy, He made a way for the guilty to be forgiven if we repent and turn to God. There is only one way. Every person is guilty of sin before God. Each person must sincerely ask for forgiveness based solely on what the Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross when He shed His blood for our sins.

Romans 5:8–9 states, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”

Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

Ephesians 2:13 says, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” We are all far from God until we take that step to draw near to God by choosing to believe in and receive His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.

Jesus’ blood speaks for us when we turn to Him. His blood gives us right standing before a holy God.

There is no other way to be free from the condemnation, guilt, and shame produced by sin. This includes anything evil and unloving we have ever said, every evil motive, wicked intent, and ungodly attitude. Scripture tells us that all sin is extremely offensive to a holy, righteous God. Jesus took our punishment, and only His blood can cleanse us from all sin and its effects upon our lives.

Colossians 1:20 tells us, “having made peace through the blood of His cross.”

First Peter 1:18–19 declares, “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.”

If we reject His salvation, our sin remains, and we are separated from God. When we die, we will go to hell, a place separated from God and from everything good.

Ask yourself: am I ready to die and enter eternity? Have I prayed and asked for God’s forgiveness? Have I truly committed my life to the Lord Jesus Christ? If not, please take a moment now and pray.
