Thankful For Eternal Life

Are you thankful for your eternal destination? Do you even know for certain where you will go after you die? If you do not, you can have assurance today. If you are certain, then giving God thanks for what Jesus did for you should be of utmost importance.

Every day, we have the opportunity to express gratitude to God for all the good we have and experience. I am sure the recently released hostages who were held in filthy underground tunnels for two years were ecstatic about their return home. Try to imagine what they experienced—no light in those underground tunnels, torture, fear, cold, no hope, perhaps one small piece of stale bread a day, very little dirty water, no bathing for two years, relieving themselves where they slept, no toilet paper, rats, insects, disease, a dirt floor to sleep on, enduring abuse and beatings, and much more. Now imagine what they feel now—to take a hot shower, eat all they want, drink clean water, sleep in a bed with a pillow, face no rats, and endure no more torture. I am sure that for the rest of their lives they will value and appreciate their freedom here on Earth.

Those in the Western world enjoy these wonderful comforts and freedoms and should not take them for granted, much less complain or ridicule those who provide them.

Let us keep a proper perspective and be grateful for what we have, especially at this time of year.

Psalm 95:2: “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving.”

Psalm 100:4: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

If you are in a difficult situation, have few comforts, and see no way out, begin to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for what you do have and ask for His help. Then thank Him for hearing and answering your prayers. He will become involved. Regarding the true account of Jonah in the Bible—he first gave thanks to the Lord, and then God commanded the fish to spew him out. This was a true account, as Jesus referenced Jonah’s three days in the belly of the fish.

Jonah 2:9–10: “But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.” The Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Being thankful first will then bring deliverance.

But most importantly, for those of us who have turned from our sin, asked forgiveness, and received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are already enjoying eternal life. This includes peace, joy, God’s grace, comfort, and strength through every trial when we learn God’s ways and what Jesus provided for us on the Cross. We should be forever thankful to Him for redeeming our souls from an eternal hell. Many people have experienced horrific persecution, abuse, and a taste of hell on Earth, and I do not say the following to make light of it. However, the reality is that what we experience here on Earth does not compare to the pains of hell. Hell entails far worse, and it is for all eternity. There is no release, no mercy, no way out, and a completely hopeless existence forever.

If you are not certain about where you will go after you die, it should be your absolute top priority to find the truth. Jesus said He is the truth in John 14:6, and knowing Him is the only way to avoid hell and gain entrance to heaven. It is your choice what you believe. Make the right decision, and then you too will be eternally grateful for what Jesus did for you.

Psalm 30:12: “O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”
