Standing In The Evil Day
God is empowering His people not only to stand in the evil day but to do so courageously. The murder of Charlie Kirk was evil—and it was demonic. For countless millions of people, this act of hatred and violence hit us hard. It was personal.
During my lifetime, I do not recall someone’s public death affecting so many people globally. The impact is supernatural.
What is happening in our world goes beyond politics. We are in a spiritual war for the souls of people—especially this younger generation. As Christians, we are to understand and rightly discern the times we live in. The Bible tells us how to recognize what is good and what is evil, what is light and what is darkness, what is truth and what is a lie.
First, the Bible clearly defines the days we live in:
2 Timothy 3:1–5
“In the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
Matthew 24:37
Jesus warned us, “As the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
Genesis 6:11 tells us what the world looked like in the days of Noah:
“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
Isaiah 5:20
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.”
Romans 1:18–32 explains how ungodly people suppress biblical truth and embrace sinful behavior because they reject God.
Second, the Bible instructs Christians how we are to live and respond:
- We are to get serious about our commitment to Jesus Christ.
This includes surrendering our lives to the Lord and following His plan for us.
1 John 2:4 says, “He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. - We are to prepare ourselves, stand for truth, and peacefully live out our convictions.
John 8:31–32
Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
God’s Word only makes you free when you know it!
Acts 17:11 says, “They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
Acts 5:29 tells us how Peter and the other apostles responded when the authorities tried to silence them: “We ought to obey God rather than men.” - We are to redeem the time.
God is asking each of us to rescue our time from loss. That takes intentional effort—to remove distractions, prioritize how and with whom our time is spent—and we do so to obey God.
Ephesians 5:15–16 instructs us, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Romans 13:11–12 states, “Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep… Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”
Colossians 4:5 instructs us, “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside [without Christ], redeeming the time.”
James 4:14 gives us a sobering reminder:
“You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
