Playing With The Dark Side

Playing with the Dark Side

I’ve heard people say, “I didn’t know that I was doing anything wrong.”

“It’s no big deal. I just do it for fun.” “I feel so spiritually connected when I do it.”

When you visit a psychic, engage in tarot card readings, dive into horoscopes, or even play with a Ouija board, you are playing with the dark side. These things all seem harmless and even enjoyable but you are actually inviting the presence of demonic spirits into your life when you participate in these activities. In fact, you actually give them permission to invade and influence your mind, your relationships, and your home.

Hosea 4:6 says, “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.”

Ignorance and willful disobedience bring suffering. God is endeavoring to protect you from harm but you also have to make wise choices. You can’t go on blaming immaturity or a lack of understanding for your bad decisions. The Bible is filled with warnings and insights like these to guide your life and keep you from needless spiritual attacks:

Leviticus 19:26, 31

“…Neither shall you use enchantment, nor observe times (horoscopes)…Regard not them that have familiar spirits (fortune tellers, mediums and witches in séances or those who dabble with Ouija boards), neither seek after wizards, (sorcerers using magic or drugs) to be defiled by them…”

Deuteronomy 18:10-11

There shall not be found among you any one who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits (mediums, fortune tellers), or a wizard, or a necromancer (one who conjures up spirits from the dead and communes with them in order to predict the future, black magic, sorcery). For all these things are an abomination unto the Lord

Leviticus 20:6

“And the soul that turns after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set My face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.”  (God’s protection is removed from anyone who looks to the occult for direction and help for his life.)

Romans 6:16

“Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness?”

What do you do if you have played with the dark side, even unknowingly?

First, get rid of any ungodly items in your home now. Remove any objects, books, games, tokens, or décor that hold an anti-Biblical value. If you are experiencing nightmares and demonic manifestations in your home, you most likely have invited the presence of demons into your life. Start with getting rid of the physical things you have acquired immediately.

In the book of Acts, chapter 19, many of those who believed in Jesus Christ came and openly confessed their evil deeds. The ones who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. In other words, they destroyed and removed the occult objects from their lives.

In Numbers 33:-52-56, God instructs Israel to destroy all their molten images and tear down their high places where they worshipped demons.

In Deuteronomy 7:25-26, we are told that worshipping or desiring false gods is an abomination to the Lord. God said do not bring the abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it. He says we are to utterly detest it.

Ignorance does not absolve us from the guilt of our sins, but we can repent and obtain mercy! Repentance from the heart and changing your ways shuts the door on the devil. Repentance is the first step you must take spiritually to be freed from any unwanted demonic presence in your life.

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Proverbs 28:13

“He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

2 Corinthians 7:1

“Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

James 4:7

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will (not maybe) flee from you.  (But in order to have the devil flee, we must first submit to God and His Word. We must humble ourselves. “Resist” is an action word – not passive, we have to do something.  Jesus resisted the devil with “it is written” – He spoke the Word of God!”

After you have repented, asked God’s forgiveness, and removed the evil from your life, don’t allow the enemy to continue to condemn you. You must tell the enemy with your own mouth, “Go! Leave me and my house in Jesus name!” All authority to resist the enemy is in the name of Jesus. Jesus paid an extreme price for us to exercise this God-given authority.

Make new choices today! Move forward with God. Spend time renewing your mind with the Bible. Pray and ask for continued discernment and awareness. You are a child of the Most High God. Follow Jesus and don’t look back or fall into old habits or the devil’s traps.
