My Journey To Hell

God gave me a terrifying vision of hell that I will never forget. I was asked to write a book about my experience called, 23 Minutes In Hell. You may not believe my story and that’s fine. You do need to believe in hell and what the Bible says about it. Jesus warned us about hell in 46 verses, and there are 132 verses in the Bible that use the word hell or pit. In addition, there are another hundred verses about outer darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth, and everlasting torment. There have also been many people on their deathbed in the hospital who were slipping out of their body. They knew they were on their way to hell. I am not the only person who has seen this horrifying place. I visited two people who were confirmed atheists in the hospital. They both said they were terrified and begged to know, “How do I get saved?” They mocked God before they were sick and dying in the hospital. When they were slipping out of their body and facing an eternity in fire they were no longer arrogant. They were desperate.

I want to take you on a journey to the lower parts of the earth. This is what you will experience if you reject Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

First, you will begin traveling down a long dark tunnel. It will grow hotter and hotter and darker and darker. Then you’ll begin to see some light and deep down the tunnel you’ll see flames. These will be the flames and fires of hell, and you’ll start feeling the heat. You’ll begin to hear the screams of millions of people, and the screams will get louder and louder as you approach this place called hell.  It will be deafening… so loud from all the people screaming.

It will be so hot that it will actually burn out your lungs. You won’t be able to breathe. It’ll be agonizing. Your eyes will start to bulge out and burn, and you will not believe you’re still alive in it. Then you’re going to pass through a huge open cavern-like area, and you’ll land on either a stone floor in a prison cell in hell. You will end up in your own individual pit or this enormous pit of fire I witnessed where there were millions of people. There will be a demon waiting for you and he’s going to drag you through the gates. You will have no physical strength in your body. Demons have great strength but you will have none. You will not be able to resist them, and they’re going to drag you off into one of these places.

The demons are going to begin tormenting you because they hate you, and you’re going to start screaming and begging for help, but no one will come. Nobody is coming to rescue you. There is no cavalry coming over the hill. There is no God to cry out to and there are no angels to protect you. You’re going to begin thinking about your family and understanding that you will never see them again. You’ll have no finality with them. You can’t ever tell them that you love them or that you’ll miss them, and they won’t even know that you still exist down deep in the earth, suffering. And these demons will never let up on the torment. They have no mercy over you whatsoever.

The stench in hell is full of the most foul, putrid, disgusting odors, much worse than any open sewer you’ve ever smelled. The smell of burning flesh fills the air. The demons themselves have a foul, disgusting, decaying odor. In addition, you’re going to inhale the smell of burning sulfur.  Sulfur is toxic to breathe. It’s the word “brimstone” in the Bible and that’s the same as the word “sulfur.”  There is also not enough air to breathe and you will have to fight for even the tiniest bit of oxygen. You will be like those who suffer with asthma attacks, where they struggle to try to get a breath. But you won’t ever get any more air than that. Every moment of every day, you feel like you are going to suffocate.

Isaiah 42:5 says, “The Lord gives breath to the people upon the earth.”

You’re no longer on the earth. You’re down deep beneath the earth and you descended to get there. You only ascend to you leave, but you will never leave. I left there in my vision, but you will never leave this place. I was a born again Christian. I was not condemned to hell. But if you deny Jesus, you’re condemned to hell for all eternity.

You also need to sleep in hell, but you will never, ever get to sleep. You will never get to rest. You will not close your eyes for even one second. That would be a reprieve from the torment and there will be no such thing in hell. Mercy does not exist in hell.

You’re going to want to talk to a person, but there is no one to talk to. You’re going to be alone and isolated for all eternity. Hell is also a place of utter confusion. Jeremiah 20:11, and Isaiah 45:16 mention a land of everlasting confusion. Nothing makes any sense and you are submerged in this hectic, chaotic place forever.

You will have a body in hell and the demons exist to torment you. In Luke 16, the rich man wanted a drop of water to cool his tongue. He was tormented in the flame, but he will never get that drop of water. We know the man in Luke 16 had a body because he could speak, he could lift his eyes, and he spoke. This spiritual body we will receive withstands torment. You want to die, but you can’t. They demons will tear at your flesh but you will not have any blood or water come from the wounds because Leviticus 17:11 says, “The life of the flesh is in the blood.” There is no life in hell so there is no blood.

There is no life of any kind. Everything is desolate and barren like a wasteland. And the dungeon in hell is not like a prison cell on the earth.  It is filthy, stinking, dirty and smoke-filled with rough-hewn, stone walls and bars. It is worse than anything you could ever envision. You will also experience a pit of fire like I saw those people in. They were screaming and burning, trying to claw their way out of the pit. But they won’t. No one will get out of it. There is no strength to even lift yourself out, and you cannot fight off the demons. There are snakes and maggots crawling all over everything, including you. The maggots feed on you for all eternity. The level of fear that you’re going to experience in hell is so far beyond anything you can possibly imagine. And the fear never lets up for all eternity.

But the worst part of hell is you will have the understanding that you’ll never ever escape. You’ll never get out. Isaiah 38:18 says, “Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for thy truth.” Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, but by me.” Those who reject Jesus have no hope for Him because it’s too late. They’ve denied Him in this life so they are condemned to hell for all eternity. That will be you if you reject Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Then comes Judgment Day.

After a time in the current hell located down deep in the earth, there will be a Judgment Day. Revelation 20:11 through 15 mentions the Great White Throne Judgment. This is at the end of the thousand-year period on the earth. There we will witness the throne of God, and at that time God is going to deliver up all the dead that are in hell. You will be delivered up and you will stand before God in judgment. He will open books and read every word you ever spoke, every lie you ever committed and every evil thought you ever had. All will be recorded in these books. He will then show you these books. You may think, “I was a good person” but you will see that by His standard you were not.

The Bible says there’s none good, no not one. None of us are good.  You will be judged by all the sins you’ve committed and all the thoughts you had and all the evil and wicked intents of your heart. When God opens the Book of Life, if your name is not found written there, you will be drug off by demons and cast into this Lake of Fire. You will be judged accordingly and then God will sorrowfully say, “Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Because you spent your lifetime rejecting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior this will be your sentencing to the second hell.

The current hell is down deep in the earth. The Bible says that this hell will be delivered up. At this time, hell and its inhabitants will be cast into the lake of fire. The lake of fire will burn forever and no one will ever escape. It will be the final destination for many. Revelation 20:15 says, “Whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

God is merciful and He will forgive you of anything you’ve ever done, but you must ask Him to forgive you. You must repent. That means you choose to turn away from sin and agree to follow Jesus. You have to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He died on the cross for your sins and mine, and that shows how much He loves you. He also gave you that free will to choose. He’s not forcing you into anything.

If you’re thinking, “Bill, I just don’t believe that” know thatRevelation 21:18 says, “All unbelievers shall have their part in the lake of fire.” There’s the warning. He has told us that if we don’t believe Jesus is the only way to heaven, our own words will send us to hell.

Jesus said in Matthew 12:37, “Your own words will condemn you.” Those who say, “I don’t believe Jesus is the only way” will be condemned to hell.

I hope the journey I’ve described will cause to you investigate what the Bible says about hell. We are all going to die so it would be wise to investigate what the Creator of the universe has warned us of. If you value your opinion over the Almighty God of the Bible just know that your opinion and excuses will mean nothing on Judgment Day.
