Jesus Never Sinned
Jesus never sinned.
Recently, some have accused Jesus of lying or committing some kind of sin. Some even claim that He had relations with Mary Magdalene. This is deeply irreverent.
In my parents’ generation, even those who did not believe in God or did not call themselves Christians still had enough respect not to accuse Jesus of sinning. That is not the case today.
Recent polls from Barna, Gallup, and other organizations indicate a decline in traditional biblical beliefs among those who identify as evangelicals. Thirty percent say that Jesus was not perfect and probably sinned.
This is among evangelicals, who are supposed to be born-again Christians. The percentage should be zero.
The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus never sinned:
Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us.”
First Peter 2:22 says, “He committed no sin.”
First John 3:5 says, “In Him is no sin.”
Hebrews 4:15 says, “He was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Hebrews 9:28 says, “He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”
Galatians 1:4 says, “He gave Himself for our sins.”
Hebrews 7:26 says, “Such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners.”
John 8:46 records Jesus asking, “Which of you convicts me of sin?”
As one commentary notes, there was not a person in the world who could convict Him of a single sin. There was no defect in His character. He was perfect in all His ways.
The Bible also teaches that God cannot lie:
Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie.”
Psalm 89:35 says, “Once I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David.”
Titus 1:2 says, “God, who cannot lie, promised eternal life before time began.”
Hebrews 6:18 says, “It is impossible for God to lie.”
First Samuel 15:29 says, “The Strength of Israel will not lie.”
God hates lying. Proverbs 12:22 says, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord.” See also Leviticus 6:2, Leviticus 19:11, and Proverbs 6:17.
The Bible also affirms that Jesus is holy, perfect, and without blemish:
First Peter 1:19 says, “Christ is like a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
Hebrews 5:9 says, “Having been made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.”
Hebrews 7:26 describes Him as “holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners.”
Hebrews 9:14 says that Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
In the Old Testament, a sacrifice had to be an animal without blemish and without physical defect. This requirement pointed forward to what was to come. The unblemished animal symbolized the Savior. He had to be sinless, perfect, and without fault in every way. Jesus is that perfect Lamb, without blemish, both physically and spiritually.
I remember speaking with a client whose home I was hired to sell. He was an agnostic. He brought up Christianity and accused Jesus of being a fraud who had relations with women. He said Jesus lied when He claimed to be God.
I tried to respond to his statements, but he refused to listen. He was wealthy, confident in his money, and unwilling to consider anything else.
Zephaniah 1:18 says, “Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath.”
Those who claim that Jesus lied, sinned, or lived immorally are often attempting to justify their own behavior. In doing so, they diminish the holy nature and character of God.
Even Pontius Pilate declared multiple times that he found no fault in Jesus, as recorded in Luke 23:4, Luke 23:14, and Luke 23:47.
One day, every person will stand before the Great White Throne Judgment and give an account of their life, actions, and thoughts. The Lord Jesus Christ will be the Judge.
Philippians 2:10–11 says, “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
