Is Death Beautiful?
If you search this phrase on-line, you’ll get all kinds of responses such as:
“While it’s true that the physical aspects of death and dying may not always be pretty, and some are downright unappealing, the bigger-picture death process can be incredibly beautiful.”
Here’s another quote:
“Everything must have its end, or there is no Beginning. Death is not the opposite of Life, but the counterpart to Birth. Death is beautiful because it represents change.”
Yes, change you don’t want if you deny Jesus. And death IS the opposite of life.
But what does God and the Bible say about death?
For the Christian, it is a falling asleep in this life, only to awake in a glorious life in heaven with God. Heaven is beautiful beyond description. Jesus said that He was leaving to go and prepare a place for us in heaven. Thank God for Jesus and our place in heaven!
Psalms 116:15, Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
However, as far as death itself, The Bible says that death is an enemy, because many suffer during death and it separates us from our loved ones here on earth. However, the Christian will be with those loved ones in heaven who placed their trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. God is life, and there is no death with him, or in heaven. Death is a result of sin.
Death is not desirable, nor should it be glamorized, or something to look forward to in and of itself.
In Luke 16:23, Jesus spoke of the rich man who died who didn’t know God and said, “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…”
Obviously, death was not beautiful for him. Jesus talked about hell in 46 verses. There is no limbo, purgatory, ceasing to exist, reincarnation, or escaping hell once a person dies. Hell is real and it is terrifying. There is nothing beautiful about it. If a person dies apart from Jesus Christ, they will experience complete horror, ultimate fear, and hopelessness forever.
Jesus was clear that there are two destinations after death. Jesus said in Matt. 25:46, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
In Luke 16:22-31, Jesus describes the poor man’s death, who knew God, and the rich man’s experience, who had never turned from his sins, and didn’t know God.
“And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments.”
Notice that immediately after the rich man died, he was in hell, in torment. The beggar was in Paradise and comforted. The rich man was aware of his five brothers, and knew they were also going to end up there with him. He didn’t want them to come there, and he knew they needed to repent. The scripture further explains that no one can depart from hell to warn others. And at least two of the torments experienced are burning in the flame, and unquenchable thirst. Even one drop of water was cherished. But that drop of water will never come.
Some sell death as if it is peaceful, and an exciting experience. This is a complete lie if you reject Jesus Christ.
There are many who were pronounced clinically dead, and some people who were near-death, who were not Christians. They were terrified by what they saw, heard, or smelled. Many of their testimonies are written in books, and they all seem to report similar things.
They experienced utter darkness, loneliness, felt an evil presence, heard loud blood curtailing screams, and saw the fires of hell. Other Bible verses describe hell as a place where people experience no strength, being torn to pieces, being beaten with many stripes, a place full of cruelty, pitch black darkness, a land without order, no rest day nor night, and enduring everlasting burnings. You will also endure the hopelessness, knowing you will never escape. How does that sound for peace and contentment?
So those who sell death as a pleasant experience obviously have never been at death’s door.
The one who knows the most about what comes after death would have to be Jesus Christ. He died, was buried and conquered death when He rose from the dead. Jesus said there is a hell for all who reject him and heaven for those who receive Him.
In John 6:40, Jesus said, And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The devil wants you to believe death is beautiful, because he hates God and wants to take as many of God’s creation to hell with him. Don’t fall for his lies.
Check out the Bible for yourself. There is a god of death, Satan, who inflicts punishment and suffering. The God of the Bible is the only true God who loves you and demonstrated His love for you by dying on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead. He is the Giver and Creator of all life. You must put your faith in Jesus Christ BEFORE you die. There are no second chances after this life.
