Into The Fire Forever

No one likes to think about the time of their death, and that’s understandable. Our lives are short, and we should enjoy and cherish life to the fullest. However, what we should consider is: where are we going after we die? Most people fear death, but what they should fear is the Judgment.

Yet at most funerals, the statement is commonly made, “They have gone to a better place.” But is that the case for many? Jesus said in Matthew 7:13, “Many are going to hell, and few are going to heaven.” That statement should wake us all up!

Right now, let’s take a journey to a time when you will take your last breath. Perhaps it’s when you are older and in the hospital. You inhale for the last time and then leave your body. You see yourself lying on the bed as you float above the room.

You drift out of the room, heading upward toward a bright light. There is a peaceful feeling, and you realize you’ve just died, and you’re on your way to what appears to be heaven. Going upward, and upward, heading toward this beautiful light, you finally arrive and see it’s an angel shining brilliantly.

  • Ecclesiastes 3:21: “The spirit of man goes upward.”
  • Ecclesiastes 12:7: “The spirit shall return to God, who gave it.”

However, this angel now points you in another direction—downward. You are shocked and bewildered, now wondering why you are not headed for a better place. You think, “But I’m a good person, and I deserve to be in heaven.”

  • Psalm 9:17: “The wicked shall be turned into hell.”

The descent continues, going down, down, down, until the light from above is almost gone. Then the last ray of light fades out, and the atmosphere is completely black. It is now so, so dark that you can’t see the hand in front of you. It almost feels like you could cut the darkness with a knife. You can actually feel the darkness, as Exodus 10:21 states.

  • Lamentations 3:6: “He has set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.”

You continue in this downward tunnel in total darkness, and then suddenly you begin seeing a flicker of light. You travel a bit further and now see what looks like flames reflecting upon a cavern wall. As you go lower, the flames become more pronounced. You now begin to see raging flames in a large open cavern. You see an enormous pit full of raging fire.

  • Psalm 11:6: “Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone…”
  • Matthew 13:50: “The angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire.”
  • Ezekiel 31:16: “When I cast him down to hell, with them that descend into the pit.”

You begin to hear the screams of what sounds like thousands of people. The screams become deafening—to the point of the most piercing terror and unbearable sound. You are now close enough to see this large creature waiting for you at this pit of open fire. This creature is 12 or 13 feet tall—the most grotesque beast even your worst nightmare couldn’t produce. He grabs you by the arm, and his grip is so firm you find it impossible to escape. He is twisted, deformed, and full of scales and bumps. There is a blackness in his eyes that is absolutely terrifying. The slime dripping out of his fanged mouth has the most putrid, disgusting odor, and it makes you nauseous to the point of wanting to vomit. You see this large pit, and you also see other prison cells with bars, and people in those cells.

  • Job 17:16: “They shall go down to the bars of the pit.”
  • Isaiah 24:22: “They will be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and will be shut up in the prison.”

This beast is dragging you to the edge of this pit with raging flames. The heat from the flames is like a blast furnace, like burning lava. You are terrified beyond words. At that moment, without hesitation, the demon picks you up and throws you into this enormous pit of flames. You feel your skin instantly burn off, your bones cracking, your eyes burning out of your sockets, and you land with a thud on barren rock. You are screaming in agony. Your tongue is completely dried up and you realize there is no flesh left on you. You are merely a skeleton, but still alive. You desperately want someone to rescue you, but you realize it will never happen. You know there is no one to help you or call out to. You are alone and completely hopeless. You are hearing the screams of countless others moaning and gnashing their teeth. You realize you will never, ever escape this horrific place.

  • Isaiah 38:18: “Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.”
  • Job 7:9: “He that goeth down to Sheol shall come up no more.”

Your deep desire is that you could just die and escape the pain, but you are the living dead—like a rotting corpse. You remember the many opportunities during your life on earth to repent and turn to God, but you refused and ignored all of them. You laughed and joked about Jesus, the cross, and the afterlife—or you may have just procrastinated and put it off for another day. Now you have an eternity to think about your foolish decision.

This is what it is like for those who have rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Countless millions have experienced this exact scenario, and this is in no way an exaggeration. Are you really willing to take a chance with your most precious asset—your soul?

Why would you discount the warnings of Jesus, and the 23 other authors of the Bible who wrote about the horrors of hell? There are many who have had a near-death experience, or even a clinical death experience, who saw hell, and it completely changed their lives.

Dr. Kenneth Hagin was dying at the age of 15. He left his body and descended to hell three times before he asked forgiveness for his sins and invited Jesus into his heart.

He said:
“I began to descend, down, down, into a pit…I could look up and see the lights of the earth. They finally faded away. Darkness encompassed me round about—darkness that is blacker than any night man has ever seen. It seemed that if you had a knife you could cut a chunk out of it. You couldn’t see your hand if it was one inch in front of your face. The farther down I went, the darker it became—and the hotter it became—until finally, way down beneath me, I could see fingers of light playing on the wall of darkness. And I came to the bottom of the pit…Out in front of me, beyond the gates or the entrance into hell, I saw giant great orange flames with a white crest. I was pulled toward hell just like a magnet pulls metal unto itself. I knew once I entered through those gates I could not come back. I was conscious of the fact that some kind of creature met me at the bottom of that pit…That creature took me by the arm to escort me in…When he did, away above the blackness a voice spoke. It sounded like a male voice. I don’t know if it was God, Jesus, or an angel. That place just shook at the few words He spoke. And the creature took his hand off my arm…Then, like a suction from above, I floated up. This is the third time. And in the darkness, I cried out, ‘God, I belong to the church. I’ve been baptized in water…’ I began to pray, ‘O God, I come to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask you to forgive me of my sins and to cleanse me from all sin.’”

Of course, he became such a strong Christian, established Rhema Bible Institute, and preached for over 60 years. He was a great and powerful man of God, who went home in 2003 at the age of 86.

Now we see he thought he was saved because he belonged to the church and was baptized, yet he was going to hell. How many others are like him, thinking they will go to heaven? We must repent and be born again in order to enter heaven. There are many of these near-death experiences written in books.

Why would any rational person risk so much on merely their opinion?

  • Proverbs 27:12 says, “A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”

Are you ready to face your Creator and step into eternity?
