How Do I Know I’m Saved?
Many people write to me and ask, “Bill, how do I know I’m a Christian? How do I know I’m saved?” They are concerned with the afterlife and rightly so. I respond with these verses from the Bible as evidence of their salvation:
1 John 2:3, “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” If you’re obeying God, that is a clear sign that you are saved.
1 John 4:12, “If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us.” Loving one another is also evidence that you are saved.
1 John 3:14, “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.” Do you have a love for your brothers?
In Luke 8:21, Jesus said, “My mother and brethren are these which hear the word of God and do it.” Again, being a doer of the word is evidence that you are saved.
1 John 2:17, “But he that does the will of God abides forever.” Doing the will of God further proves your status as saved.
John 15:5 says, “He that abides in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.”
John 15:8, “Herein is my Father glorified,” Jesus said, “that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” Do you bear fruit in your life?
John 12:26, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am there shall also my servant be. If any man serve me, him will my Father honor.” If you’re a servant to God this also demonstrates that you are saved.
Are you a servant? Do you bring forth fruit? Do you obey God’s commandments? If you want to be confident that you are saved, determine if your life is evidenced by these changes in you.
Faith in Christ produces a change in our thoughts, desires and actions. Saving faith produces obedience. Our faith is in Christ, not in our feelings. Our feelings or emotions can change daily! Faith is a choice. Choose to feed your faith daily by spending time in God’s Word.
