God’s Miraculous Plan For Man
God’s original plan for man was to live forever in paradise and not to work by the sweat of his brow. When God created Adam and Eve, there was no sickness, disease, or lack. There was no death or destruction of any kind. Animals and plants would never die. In the original creation, before man sinned, animals ate plants and did not fight or kill one another. There were no harmful insects or poisonous creatures.
God had given man every fruit-bearing tree (except one), as well as plants that produced vegetables, herbs, nuts, and grain. The earth was pristine and perfect in every way. This was God’s plan.
The Fall of Lucifer
In addition, Satan—who was called Lucifer before his fall—was created perfect (Ezekiel 28:15). He was not created evil. Lucifer chose to rebel against God because he wanted to be like God (Isaiah 14:13–14). Pride arose in his heart, and he convinced one-third of the angels to follow him. He was, and still is, extremely persuasive.
The Bible says that he deceives the whole world (Revelation 12:9). To deceive the whole world, he must obviously be very skilled at deception. Jesus called him the “father of lies.”
The fact that a human being—or an angel—can rebel against God does not mean they were created imperfect. It means they were given free will. Free will carries with it responsibility and consequences for our decisions.
Sin and Redemption
Any rebellion against God’s commands is sin, and sin brings forth death. Death is the penalty for sin (Romans 6:23). Sin separates us from God in this present life and for eternity. Because of God’s great love, His plan included restoring man’s relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
God knew, of course, that Lucifer would rebel, just as He knew man would be deceived and disobey. God told Adam that he could eat from every tree except one. God is love, and love must allow free will and choice. Satan deceived Eve and said, “You will not die.” Adam and Eve both chose to believe the creature rather than the Creator.
Thankfully, God’s plan of redemption for humanity existed long before He created mankind (Ephesians 1:4; 1 Peter 1:20).
The Cost of Redemption
Can you imagine this? God knew that if He created people, they would sin, and that their sin would separate them from their Creator. Jesus would have to come to the earth and give His life to redeem mankind from spiritual death and hell—for all who would put their faith solely in what Jesus did for them.
The word redeem means “to buy out,” especially in reference to purchasing a slave with a view to his freedom. Before coming to Christ, we were in bondage as slaves to Satan, whether we realized it or not. Jesus came to release us by paying the ultimate ransom price with His shed blood—redeeming mankind from all iniquity and sin.
Jesus, God’s only Son, left His perfect home in heaven, was born of a virgin, grew up in a corrupt world, lived a sinless life, was beaten, tortured, and died in mankind’s place. He paid the penalty for our sin.
He suffered a horrific death, being nailed to a wooden cross and hanging there for six long, excruciating hours. This was after enduring an extremely painful beating with whips that had pieces of metal and glass tied to the ends, so that each blow tore chunks of flesh and muscle from His body. He was beaten beyond human recognition, spit on, mocked, and had large thorns driven into His skull.
He took upon Himself every sin ever committed by mankind. He bore every disease in His body. He hung naked, carried all shame, and all of His bones were out of joint. We have no capacity to understand what it truly meant for Him to take on the sins of the entire world.
His blood was poured out to satisfy the requirement of God’s justice. Sin is extremely offensive to a holy God and demanded the most severe punishment. This is why Jesus had to suffer so horrendously. God’s judgment and wrath against all sin were fully poured out upon Christ.
The Only Way of Salvation
Jesus’ death and resurrection provided the only way for a person to avoid eternal separation from God in hell. He did this not only for those who would trust in His death, burial, and resurrection for salvation, but also for those who hate Him, use His name as a curse word, despise Him, or reject Him.
Prophecy and God’s Perfect Plan
God also gave us proof in advance through the Old Testament, which foretold the coming of Jesus to the earth. It contains over three hundred prophecies about who Jesus would be, why He would come, and many details of His life. Many of these prophecies were written approximately 800 years before His birth by multiple authors over hundreds of years.
This plan was meticulously carried out over a period of 4,000 years. It is miraculous how every detail was revealed in advance. Satan understood enough to attempt to pollute the bloodline required for Jesus’ birth. He also attempted to wipe out the Jewish people several times to prevent Christ from being born. There are at least sixteen recorded attempts by Satan over this 4,000-year period.
Throughout the Bible, God provided many Scriptures about Jesus Christ so we would understand His plan of salvation. At the same time, parts of the plan were hidden and required diligent searching to fully understand. This is the wisdom of God.
If God had revealed His plan of salvation in an obvious way, Satan would have understood it. Scripture says that if Satan had known the plan, he would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:8).
The Gospel to the World
Jesus said in Matthew 24:14,
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
At the time, this would have seemed like a preposterous statement, as travel was extremely difficult—especially worldwide travel. Today, through modern media and technology, news can spread instantly.
Online statistics indicate that there are approximately 7.21 billion smartphones worldwide, accounting for nearly 90% of the planet’s 8 billion people. All of these people now have access to the gospel.
The Timeline of History
Many biblical scholars believe God has determined six thousand years for mankind before Jesus comes for His Church. After that gathering, there will be a seven-year period known as the Tribulation, followed by the thousand-year reign of Christ on earth, called the Millennium. This follows the pattern of a six-day workweek: 6,000 years of labor, followed by a seventh day of rest.
During the thousand-year reign, Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:2), and Jesus will rule the earth. We are now at the end of the 6,000-year period. Jesus is coming very soon.
God’s Plan for You
We have been discussing God’s plan for mankind and the big picture, but now I want to bring this to a personal level and share God’s plan for you.
God has a specific assignment you were born to fulfill. He wants to use the talents and skills He has given you, and He wants to bless you. He has a plan for your life—if you are willing to surrender and follow Him. It is your choice.
You can ask for His forgiveness, choose to believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, avoid hell, and receive eternal life—starting now.
