Fools Don’t Fear Hell

Jude 23 states, “Some will only be saved with fear, pulling them out of the fire.” The only way some people will turn to the Lord is by hearing a strong message about where they will end up if they don’t change. Telling them “God loves you” means nothing to them, and doesn’t cause them to really think about their arrogant attitude.

Jesus warned us about hell in 46 verses. Many don’t believe in hell because they don’t believe Jesus is God. The Bible calls that person a fool in            Psalm 14:1.

Jesus said in Luke 12:4-5, “Be not afraid of them that kill the body and after that they have no more they can do. I will forewarn you whom you shall fear. Fear him, which after he has killed, has power to cast into hell. Yeah I say unto you, fear him.”

In Matthew 18:6, Jesus said, “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

In other words, there is something coming for the person who harms a child that is far worse than drowning.

2 Corinthians 5:10-11, Paul said, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.” That means when we understand the severity of hell, we will be more persuasive with men. We will take more effort with people.

The Believer’s Bible Commentary, page 143 reads,

“This verse is commonly taken to mean that since Paul was aware of God’s terrible judgment on sin, and the horrors of hell, he went everywhere seeking to persuade men to accept the gospel.”

Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown’s Commentary, page 124 says, “The coming judgment so full of terrors to unbelievers… Ministers should use the terror of the Lord to persuade men.”

John the Baptist said to the Pharisees who came to him in Matthew 3:7, “O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come.”

There are many verses about God’s wrath coming on the ungodly and unbelievers. Here are just a few:

John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Romans 1:18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.”

2 Thessalonians 1:9, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.”

Revelation 14:10-11 says that His wrath will be poured out full strength. What is full strength to God? “They will be tormented with fire and brimstone in his presence, and the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever, and they have no rest day, nor night.”  That’s a terrifying verse.

Matthew 13:40-42, “And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 22:13, “Bind him hand and foot, and take him away and cast him into outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matt. 24:51,            “And he shall cut him in pieces and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites, there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Matt. 25:41,            “Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Mark 9:47, “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out. It is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than having two eyes to be cast into hell. Where their worm dies not and the fire is not quenched.”

Matthew 23:33, “Jesus said, You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell?”

Matthew 25:46, “These shall go into everlasting life and these shall go into everlasting punishment. There is only two places. God has given us fair warning about hell. He doesn’t want anyone to go there. He died a horrific death to keep people out, but because he loves man he gave us a free will to choose.”

Deuteronomy 30:19, God said, “I set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life.”

Paul said in Colossians 1:28, “Christ in you, the hope of glory, whom we preach warning every man.”  We must warn every person. That’s our job as Christians.

It’s not because we want to scare people. It’s because we care about people.
