Are People Isolated In Hell?
I really believe today’s video will help deepen your appreciation for the Lord, your family, your friends, your church family and every godly relationship the Lord brings into your life. We were never created to be alone!
Try to imagine a place where you will never see a person again. Imagine a place where you are totally isolated and alone. Think of a place where you will never have a conversation, never take comfort in companionship, and never hear a word uttered.
In hell you will never hear from God.
David said in Psalms 28:1,”Do not be silent to me lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.”
Psalms 88:5, “I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care.”
Proverbs 15:29, “The Lord is far from the wicked.”
In hell, you will never converse with a friend.
David said in Psalms 88:18, “Loved one and friend, You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness.”
In hell, there will be no angels to deliver you, or to protect you.
Psalms 34:7, “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” Those in hell do not fear the Lord.”
Revelation 14:10, “He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels…” This verse indicates angels will observe the torment, but will not be protecting anyone.
To be alone and in isolation is not the way God designed human beings to live. People need companionship. In Genesis 2:18 it states, “And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone.” So he made the woman for man. That’s why it’s so important for us to connect with godly people, and not just on-line but in person, in a home bible study and in church.
In Mark 6:7, the Lord sent them, two by two because He knows we can help one another and enjoy companionship. There is another verse in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 that says, “Two are better than one…For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe unto him that is alone when he falls.”
God knows we all need help, encouragement and comfort especially during trials.
In hell, you are utterly alone with no help and no comfort.
When a person is sentenced to prison, and then further placed in solitary confinement, most experience severe mental health issues the longer they remain. Psychological effects to the individual can include anxiety, depression, anger, cognitive disturbances, perceptual distortions, obsessive thoughts, paranoia, and psychosis. People in solitary are usually allowed physical recreation for an hour a day but in hell, there is no reprieve not even for one minute.
One study showed that when monkeys were isolated for twelve months, they were almost obliterated socially following that time.
In hell the mind can’t escape into insanity.
Insanity would be, in a sense, a form of escape or relief. But in hell, a person remains aware and cognizant. Look at the rich man in hell Jesus spoke of in Luke 16:23. He was concerned about his brothers and didn’t want them to come there. He thirsted for just one drop of water. From his remarks, we can gather that he had reason and was of sound mind when he responded rationally to Abraham.
In Ezekiel 32:30 it states, “They shall bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.” To bear shame, one would have to be in their right mind to comprehend shame.”
The story of the rich man in hell is a unique situation, and doesn’t imply that a person in hell will be able to talk to others. Jesus allowed this example to teach us about hell. Abraham’s bosom, where Abraham dwelt, no longer exists today. Prior to the resurrection, hell was separated by a great gulf fixed. The torment side was one side, and the comfort side was the other. There is no one across that great gulf to talk to any longer. Jesus removed them after He rose from the dead (Matthew 27:52; Ephesians 4:9-10).
In hell, there will be no interaction with anyone. Everyone in hell is experiencing fear and torment.
It’s one thing to be alone, but when you are also in complete darkness, it amplifies the terror. When you can’t see the demonic activity that is happening around you, and there is no one to help you, the horror is beyond description.
Psalms 88:6, “You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the depths.
Lamentations 3:6, “He has set me in dark places, like the dead of long ago.
Jude 13, “To whom is reserved blackness of darkness forever.”
Exodus 10:21, “A darkness that may be felt.”
In hell a person is forgotten. No one is giving them a thought. This amplifies the isolation experienced.
Deuteronomy 32:26,”I will make the memory of them to cease from among men.”
Psalms 109:15, ‘He may cut off the memory of them from the earth.”
Job 18:17, “His remembrance shall perish from the earth.”
NOW listen to these promises from God for the one who trusts in Jesus Christ for their salvation!
Psalms 112:6, “The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.”
Hebrews 13:5, “For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Jesus said that in this life, He will give us the person of the Holy Spirit to live inside of us, so we are never alone.
John 14:18 says, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
Then to go a step further, Jesus said in John 15:15, I have called you friends.
We have Jesus not only as our Lord and Savior but as our friend! The Creator of the Universe wants to be your personal friend. Can you imagine! We can see how good God is to us as we delight in Him,
Psalm 37:4 says, God will give us the desires of our heart.
God will give you the Holy Spirit to live within you. He will provide a godly mate for you if we you so desire. Jesus will never leave you and He has called you His friend. You will never have to fear being alone as a Christian. Who would not want to know this awesome God!
