According to a 2020 poll by George Barna, more Americans believe in Satan at 56% percent, than believe in God. Still, many people believe he is an imaginary character.

In the book of John, Jesus Christ said Satan is a real being, and that his mission is to steal, kill and destroy. He is the father of lies. True biblical accounts record Jesus encountering Satan in the wilderness and in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus stated that He witnessed Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Jesus cast out demons and freed people from Satan’s affliction in their physical bodies and minds. Judas was possessed by Satan. Peter confronted Ananias by asking him why Satan had filled his heart to lie. Paul acknowledged Satan hindering his mission by working through people who opposed him. The final global leader will be possessed by Satan and perform lying signs and wonders deceiving hundreds of millions worldwide.

Who would you consider the most religious being on the planet? Some may answer the Pope. However, Satan is the most religious being in existence. He has influenced mankind to invent a long list of false religions and beliefs which ultimately lead people to hell. In John 8:44, Jesus makes it clear that if God is not your father, by default, the devil is your father.

That is a very strong and sobering statement. If you don’t believe His words, you are calling Jesus a liar.

In 2 Corinthians 11:13-14, the scripture speaks of false apostles as deceitful workers and says Satan transforms himself into an angel of light. That means the devil disguises himself. His influence on society is subtle and full of deception. He comes with appealing ideas, philosophies and beliefs. He capitalizes on a person’s fallen, sinful nature, and affects their thoughts. People choose to follow his lies and act accordingly.

Sadly, many people choose to reject God and the Bible. They think they are basically good people and can earn their way to heaven. This is probably Satan’s most successful lie because it influences countless millions to simply do nothing about their afterlife. They die without putting their faith in Jesus Christ and end up in hell.

The devil’s main tool in his arsenal is deception. When he tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he offered Jesus the kingdoms of this world. Jesus never refuted his statement that he controlled the world’s kingdoms. In fact, the Bible calls Satan the “god of this world.” And 1 John 5:19 states that “the whole world lieth in wickedness.” In other words, the world around us in under Satan’s power and control.

That’s why the scriptures contrast light and darkness so much. A very real spiritual world exists.

Demonic forces are attempting to affect the minds of people throughout the day, every day. Most institutions and spheres of society, such as political, economic, media, education, religion, and so forth, are largely controlled by ungodly people.

Have you considered that true evil does exist? Throughout history, humans have committed some horrific acts against other humans. What or who do you think inspires the most vile and evil atrocities in our world?

1 John 3:8 says that Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil over people’s lives. Luke 9:56 tells us Jesus did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. Obviously, we need saving! We must be saved from going to hell when we die, and rescued from demonic attacks and afflictions in this life.

God’s great love for each one of us is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross. He died for our sin which separates us from God. Acts 4:12 states this truth about Jesus Christ. It says, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” We cannot experience eternal life with our Creator now and in heaven unless we receive His gift of salvation and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Jesus died, was buried and rose from the dead. He lives to free people from Satan’s influence, affliction, torment and control.

And, most importantly, the Lord Jesus came to save us from eternal torment in hell.

It is estimated that approximately 150,000 people die every day. That is over 4 million people per month worldwide. Many die suddenly. One minute after you die, it is too late. It is too late to secure your eternity with God in heaven. Many are deceived by thinking they will get another chance in the afterlife. Satan who comes as “an angel of light” whispers this lie into the minds of millions of people.

But Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Who will you believe?
