5 Reasons Jesus Is Coming - Soul Choice Ministries

Today, we will look at five reasons for Jesus Christ’s return to the earth.

The Bible contains over 1,800 references to His second coming. The Lord Jesus Himself mentions it 21 times.

He returns as King to judge and to rule. He executes judgment upon the inhabitants of the earth and judges the nations. He makes everything right and pours out His wrath on the wicked. (Revelation 19:11-16; Psalm 2:9; Isaiah 11:4)

Jesus returns to Israel (Zechariah 14:4). He comes to deliver Israel, restore her to her land, and prepare her to receive her Messiah and Savior. He comes to establish His Messianic Kingdom on earth.

He returns to establish a new heaven and a new earth (2 Peter 3:13). Revelation 21:1 states, “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.” The curse upon the earth will be removed.

The entire world will witness His return. He comes in all His glory (Revelation 1:7; Titus 2:13; Philippians 2:10-11). The first time, He came as a sacrificial Lamb, laying down His life for us. The second time, He comes as King of kings and Lord of lords to rule and reign.

We know that many say, “I’ve heard Jesus is coming for years, and He hasn’t come yet.” 2 Peter 3:4-7 speaks of these people. It states:

“…knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days…saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming?…all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’ For this they willfully forget: by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”

If we study the Scriptures, observe all the signs of His return, and are aware of world events, it is now obvious that the time is very close.

As many credible Bible teachers have learned by studying the Scriptures, we now can understand that the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ could not have occurred before Israel became a nation in 1948. His return could not have taken place before Israel took Jerusalem in 1967.

Jesus could not return before people were traveling back and forth throughout the whole earth, as Daniel 12:4 states. This has only occurred in recent decades with jet travel. Global natural disasters are increasing in frequency and intensity, as predicted. We have seen knowledge increase at lightning speed with technology and artificial intelligence. Never in history has this occurred. Just think of it. Man traveled by horseback until about 150 years ago. For thousands of years, life was basically the same. Ask yourself, “Why were thousands of years virtually the same, and only during the last hundred years or so has knowledge exploded?” Because God said that the increase of knowledge would not occur until the end.

In addition, this could not take place until artificial intelligence was invented and used for surveillance, weapons, digital identification, banking, and control. The final world leader, or antichrist, will, of course, utilize these systems to control the nations. It is the convergence of all these events that makes this time in history unique and ripe for the Lord Jesus Christ’s return. The Bible says we are to look forward to the second coming of Jesus and not ridicule it or act as if it were not true.

Matthew 24:48 says, “But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming…” Jesus said that person is evil if he doubts and ridicules His second coming.

Mark 13:35 says, “Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh.” However, Christians are supposed to know the season of His return.

First Thessalonians 5:4-6 states: “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”

Jesus said when He returns it would be like the days of Noah and Lot.

Matthew 24:39 states: “For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

They were completely unaware that judgment was coming upon the whole earth because the whole earth was corrupt and mankind sinned continuously. Sounds like today.

Luke 17:28-29 records Jesus saying: “Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” Jesus was simply saying that people were living their lives. It was business as usual. They were also corrupt throughout the city.

As believers, the question is: Are you prepared to meet Jesus? Are you in relationship with Him and engaged in the work of the Kingdom? Or will you feel regret and shame at His appearing? Are you interested and involved in what matters most to Him?

The second coming of Jesus Christ should motivate us to live holy lives, fill us with hope and comfort, and compel us to reach the lost.

1 John 2:28 says: “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”

Every one of us will give an account to God for our lives, as Matthew 12:36, Luke 8:17, and 2 Corinthians 5:10-11 state.

Here are three verses that declare He is coming:

Revelation 1:7, “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.”

Matthew 24:30, “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.”

Luke 17:24, “For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day.”

In Luke 19:13, Jesus told us to occupy until He comes. The apostle Paul said, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.”

Let us share the way of salvation with as many people as possible, since we know that an eternal hell awaits all those who do not repent and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.

After my 23 Minutes in Hell experience, the very last thing Jesus told me was, “Tell them I am coming very, very soon.” He repeated Himself, “Tell them I am coming very, very soon.” This was November 23, 1998, almost 28 years ago. I believe He delayed His coming, as Matthew 25 states, but now we truly have a short window of time and opportunity before His return.

Ephesians 5:15-16 instructs us, saying: “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
