Who Will Be In Hell?

Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

He said that many people are going to hell. Who are they?

First, 1 Corinthians 6:9, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?”

Who are the unrighteous? They are those who have not repented of their sins, and have rejected Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Their good works won’t save them (Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9 and Titus 3:5). Romans 3:10 and 12 say there is no one good.

It is the rejection of the provision for our sins, Jesus Christ, which sends a person to hell.

Will any one of the sins listed in the Bible that an unsaved person commits exclude that person from Heaven? The purpose of this list is to show us that every one of us commits sin, and no one is considered “a good person.” We all fall short and need a Savior.

If we are not trusting in Jesus, then any one of these sins show us we are doomed without Jesus.

James 2:10 says, “for whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” There is no one who can keep the whole law.  As you are hearing this list of people or actions that will send you to hell, see how many of these sins you have committed.

We first see that the Pharisees and chief priests who found fault with Jesus

in John 7:34, will be in hell. Jesus said to them, “yet a little while I am with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me, and where I am, you cannot come.” He just told them they cannot come to heaven.

He also pronounced eight woes unto the Scribes and Pharisees, and called them hypocrites in Matthew 23:13. He said in verse 33, “how can you escape the damnation of hell.” This is also stated in Mark 3:6; Luke 12:1, and John 8:40-44.

In Matthew 24:51, Jesus said, “But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant… will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” That servant will be in hell.

The people who told Pilate to crucify Jesus (Mark 15:11-12) will be in hell.

Judas, who betrayed Jesus, most certainly will be in hell. Jesus said in Matthew 26:24, “It had been good for that man if he had not been born.” That is a severe woe for him.

We can clearly see that the acts and lifestyles listed below will send a person to hell. 1 Corinthians 6:9, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither…

  • fornicators
  • idolaters
  • adulterers
  • effeminate
  • abusers of themselves with mankind
  • thieves
  • covetous
  • drunkards
  • revilers
  • extortioners
  • shall not inherit the kingdom of God”

Galatians 5:19 also says,

  • “adultery,
  • fornication,
  • uncleanness,
  • lewdness,
  • Idolatry,
  • witchcraft,
  • hatred,
  • contentions,
  • jealousy,
  • wrath,
  • strife,
  • dissensions,
  • heresies,
  • envyings,
  • murders,
  • drunkenness,
  • revellings”
  • Revelations 21:8,
  • “fearful
  • unbelieving
  • abominable
  • murderers
  • whoremongers
  • sorcerers
  • idolaters
  • liars”

Ephesians 4 says,

  • “lying, speak the truth with thy neighbor
  • uncleanness with greediness
  • corrupt communication
  • bitterness
  • wrath
  • be angry and sin not
  • not to steal, but labor with thy hands
  • evil speaking, anything opposes to the word”

We see that this list leaves all of us out of heaven. Who then can be saved? Unless we are given a new heart and new spirit, these next two verses describe what we all look like before God:

Job 15:16 says, “How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinks iniquity like water.”

Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousness are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind,
have taken us away.”

There is only one way a person can be saved. It is by repenting and trusting in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Jesus said He is the only way to heaven in John 14:6. He said we must repent in Luke 13:3. At that point we are given a new spirit and a new heart, Ezekiel 36:26.

Without the sacrifice of Himself on the cross for our sins, we would all be lost and in hell. Thank God He gave Himself for us, died in our place, and then rose from the dead. Repent while you have the opportunity, or you will be one of hell’s occupants.
