Is God In Control Of Elections?
It’s shocking to see how many well-meaning Christians, and even ministers have misappropriated the Sovereignty of God doctrine. In regard to elections and leadership, they reference the scripture from Romans 13:1 which reads, “…For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”
They falsely conclude, and teach that whoever is elected is appointed by God’s will.
- Here are a few questions to consider with that line of thinking:
- Is it God’s will to kill babies even after birth?
- Is it God’s will to undermine the traditional family unit?
- Is it God’s will to strip us of our religious and individual freedoms?
- Is it God’s will to embolden Israel’s enemies?
In Gen. 12:3 God said when speaking of Israel, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you…”
In 1 Samuel 8, the people of Israel demanded God place a king over them. This displeased the prophet Samuel, and God replied in verse 7 saying, “For they have rejected Me that I should not reign over them.”
God allowed them to pick their king even though it was not His will.
Hosea 8:4 say, “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not.” This verse makes it perfectly clear that man can and does choose leaders who are not God’s will for the nation.
Here is another question for you:
Is it God’s will for any person to go to hell?
No! He gives man a free will to choose, just as we choose who we will elect as leaders. People make ungodly choices every day. Many choices are NOT God’s will.
